Other Name(s):
Punica granatum; CAS# 84961-57-9
Pomegranate trees are native to the Middle East, the Mediterranean and some parts of Central Asia. They thrive especially well in areas with hot, medium-rainfall summers and cold winters. They’re a little sensitive to fungal infections and root rot, so they need well-drained soils. The Pomegranate Association of South Africa reports that they’re a very difficult crop to grow and that only experienced fruit farmers should attempt to cultivate them.
