Production: How is Lanolin Made?

Lanolin is washed out of freshly shorn sheep’s wool by soaking it in hot water. The waxy oils melt and naturally separate on the surface of the water where it can easily be gathered.

South African sheep farmers are held accountable for animal welfare by Code of Best Practice (COBP), Sustainable Cape Wool Standard (SCWS), Animal ProtectionAct (1962), National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), and the Directorate Veterinary Services of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF).
