Gum Acacia is a natural, plant-based ingredient which can be farmed and harvested sustainably. It represents an important source of income for underprivileged communities and reduces the need for animal based ingredients in many products.
Gum Acacia is used extensively in foodstuffs like sweets, breakfast cereals, cold drinks, chewing gums and muc, much more. It’s also used, albeit quite rarely, in makeup items such as mascara.
Gum Acacia is harvested by tapping into the bark of the tree and allowing its sap to run out during the dry season.
Acacia Gum is fermented by the gut microflora after ingestion and as such may cause flatulence in larger quantities.
