• Purple tea is derived from Camellia Sinensis, the same plant as white, black, and green tea. A natural genetic mutation in the plants causes the leaves to turn purple, especially young leaves and stems. This mutation happens naturally and is not the result of genetic mutation through technological intervention. Anthocyanins in the leaves are responsible for the discolouration. Purple tea’s anthocyanins, composed of many phytochemicals, exhibit potential extraordinary health benefits. It is the same beneficial compound as found in blueberries.
